Bolo is designed for children ages 1 to 6, used with a parent or caregiver present and actively supervising. It is not designed for unsupervised use by young children. If you access or set up this app for a child, you confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian, or have the express permission of the parent or legal guardian to do so. You accept full responsibility for supervising your child's use of this app, and for ensuring that the microphone and camera features are appropriate for your household and jurisdiction.
Bolo runs entirely in your browser. No account, registration, or login is required. It uses your device's microphone (Hear and Repeat activity only) and camera (Show and Tell activity only). All camera processing occurs locally on your device using TensorFlow.js; no video or image data leaves your device. Microphone audio is processed by your browser's built-in speech recognition service operated by Google (Chrome) or Microsoft (Edge), not by Bolo. Bolo receives only the resulting text transcript from the browser and uses it to check whether the word was said correctly. Nothing is recorded or stored by this app. The only data saved is your settings (language, voice, volume) in your own browser's local storage. There are no accounts, no logins, no advertisements, and no in-app purchases.
Bolo is licensed for personal, non-commercial educational use only. You may not copy, reproduce, redistribute, sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the app or any of its content. You may not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or otherwise misuse the app or its underlying code. You may not use the app in any way that violates applicable law or regulation.
Bolo relies on browser-native speech recognition (Google or Microsoft, depending on your browser) and browser-native text-to-speech synthesis. These services are operated entirely by Google and Microsoft and are outside the control of this app and its developer. Lavkesh Dwivedi makes no warranties and assumes no liability whatsoever regarding the accuracy, availability, data handling, or any other aspect of those third-party services. Your use of Google's speech recognition is governed by Google's terms of service and privacy policy. Your use of Microsoft's speech recognition is governed by Microsoft's terms of service and privacy statement. Bolo has no affiliation with, endorsement by, or relationship with Google or Microsoft.
BOLO IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," FREE OF CHARGE, WITH NO WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, EDUCATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS, OR UNINTERRUPTED OPERATION. Lavkesh Dwivedi makes no guarantee that the app will work on any specific device or browser, be free of errors or defects, produce accurate speech recognition results, achieve any educational outcome, or be available at any particular time. Speech recognition results depend on the child's pronunciation, ambient noise, device hardware, and third-party browser services, all of which are outside this developer's control. No educational outcome, speech development result, or learning milestone is promised or implied by use of this app.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LAVKESH DWIVEDI SHALL NOT BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES OF ANY KIND WHATSOEVER, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE) BOLO OR ANY CONTENT THEREIN, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: LOSS OF DATA, DEVICE MALFUNCTION, BATTERY DRAIN, STORAGE CONSUMPTION, RELIANCE ON APP CONTENT, ERRORS IN SPEECH RECOGNITION, FAILURE TO ACHIEVE ANY EDUCATIONAL OUTCOME, EXPOSURE TO THIRD-PARTY SERVICES, OR ANY OTHER CLAIM, WHETHER BASED IN CONTRACT, TORT, STRICT LIABILITY, STATUTE, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL OR EQUITABLE THEORY, AND EVEN IF LAVKESH DWIVEDI HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IF ANY LIABILITY IS FOUND DESPITE THE FOREGOING, THE TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY OF LAVKESH DWIVEDI TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS SHALL NOT EXCEED TEN US DOLLARS ($10.00).
You understand and agree that your use of Bolo, and your child's use of Bolo, is entirely at your own risk. You assume all risk arising from accessing and using the app, including any risk from third-party services your browser invokes on your behalf.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Lavkesh Dwivedi from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of Bolo, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.
Bolo is an informal vocabulary and language-exposure tool for young children. It is not a substitute for professional speech therapy, language assessment, medical advice, or any other professional service. No content in the app should be construed as professional advice of any kind. If you have concerns about your child's speech or language development, consult a qualified professional.
The app code, design, and vocabulary content are the original work of Lavkesh Dwivedi. Emoji are rendered by your device's operating system. Voice synthesis is provided by your browser's speech engine. TensorFlow.js and coco-ssd models are used under their respective open-source licenses. Nothing in these terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you.
These terms may be updated at any time without prior notice. The "last updated" date above will reflect any change. Continued use of the app after any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
If any provision of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. You agree that any dispute arising from or relating to these terms or your use of Bolo shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Dallas County, Texas, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you may have under mandatory applicable consumer protection law in your jurisdiction.
